EU- Back to Tolerance? Forli, Italy, 2-5 March 2005

General Information

In the beginning of March, we have succesfully held the first EuroIslam conference in cooperation with AEGEE Forli. In this three-day event students from all over Europe came together to talk and learn about the topic of multiculturalism and Islam in Europe.

On thursday, there were two lectures of Lauro Giovanno, who spoke about different models of integration in Europe, and of prof. Lanzillo,who spoke about tolerance in the religious and multicultural context. There were also two workshops that day, one about Multiculturalism and one about Minorities in Europe.

The next day, we had again two lectures: of prof. Terraciano, an expert on criminology, who spoke about terrorism and the links with Islam and fundamentalism. Next was prof. Senay, a Turkisch academic who spoke about Islam and Muslims in Europe. There were two workshops, one about Islam in Europe (by prof. Senay) and one about Women in Islam.

The participants were very motivated and interested in the subject, and with the help of knowledged scolars and members of the Euro Islam Team, we have provided an interesting learning about these issues that control a great part of the European discourse today.
