This seminar is scheduled to take
place in Ankara, Turkey, 1-6 Oktober 2004. The main topics addressed
are:
- Perceptions of Islam in Europe.
- Policies of European Union towards
Islamic countries.
- Turkey and Islamic countries.
- Turkey's position between two worlds
(both culturally and geographically).
- EU and "Europe of values"?
- The relations between West and
Islamic countries – peaceful settlements of possible divergences through
of dialogue, how to overcome prejudice and promote tolerance.
- Simulation: Summit of Turkey, EU, USA, Russia - Fight against international
terrorism.
- Simulation: Summit of Turkey and the Islamic World - common
interests and possibilities.
Draft programm:
1 October: Islam, perceptions of Western Europe & perception of Islam countries..
Workshops: Muslim minorities in Europe/Media's role in this relationship,Turkey's role in this relationship.
2 October: Turkey between 2 worlds(paneldiscussion), a short film session,
Workshops on Islam countries-Iran,Iraq,Israel-Palestine,Pakistan etc..
3 October: Panel on "Future of Islam and Europe", and panel on "What EU should do on West and Islam dialogue?"
4 + 5 October: Excursion to Konya which is famous due to Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi-Islamic philosopher.
6 October: conclusion and evaluation.
