    Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine & EU

    This seminar is scheduled to take place in Minsk, Belarus, 2-5 June 2004. The main topics addressed are:

    • History and culture in order to set the background of the discussion – what was common to these countries and the rest of Europe, what differentiated them.
    • Challenges of the transition period after the Cold War.
    • The relationship to the new EU member-states and most problematic issues (e.g. cross-border trade between Poland and Ukraine, Visa issues after EU enlargement)
    • Torn (?) between EU and Russia. Attachment / identity? Economical and political relations? General orientation?
    • Wider Europe-Neighbourhood new policy of the Commission-opportunities and/or constraints.
    • Simulation for the implementation of one specific issue in the framework of “Wider Europe – Neighbourhood: A New Framework for the Relations with our Eastern and Southern Neighbours” of the European Commission (March 2003)
