Youth & Globalisation 2004

Co-operating Youth: Actively engaged in enacting a secure and sustainable GLOBAL future

Themes & Perspectives
Unite and cooperate think globally and act locally.
As the cobweb of the 21st century, globalisation is transcending all boundaries and borders, affecting deeply the local communities at large, as these remain the social fabrics of everyday life. Indeed, it is common knowledge that the ultimate consequences of global development, of societal structures and problems, of fundamental changes are felt in the local communities thus, affect every aspect of peoples lives personal, social, cultural, economical, environmental and political.

In effect, the 2004 Concept accompanying the Youth & Globalisation Project intends to pro-actively work upon the outlined tools and methods discussed to face the over-reaching process of globalisation within the AEGEE-Europe Year Plan Project last year.

The 2004 Youth & Globalisation Project seeks to:
  • Investigate the role youth activism has within civil society and to explore further in which ways it can be successful in promoting progressive change within communities so as to not solely raise awareness on the most important issues at risk but to particularly strike at making significant difference in local environment, having special regard to the need and possibilities of implementation within the developing world.
  • Stimulate further the interaction between youth around the world by enhancing interconnectivity hence, enabling them to bring the ideas discussed on an international level to the local application, thus ease the global tensions resulting from the detrimental effects of the globalisation process. The issue of new emerging strata of the privileged is one of those that the youth as young citizens of the world can make the change happen and through the stimulated interaction and exchange of ideas alleviate the barriers that underprivileged face. This will pave the way for better future of Europe as well as the whole world.

Aims & Objectives
The project acts at the core of sustainable human development by empowering youth to take their own independent step towards ameliorating their own community. This can be achieved by adopting a hands-on approach towards possibilities for forming future development strategies so as to achieve positive long-lasting changes.

The general idea will focus on the relation of youth and the future within the general framework of global co-operation and development, specifically having regards to the environmental and security of todays world, all of which is to act as a basis for further global thinking and civil society co-operation initiatives for the future.

Concept & Methodology
Acknowledging that youths of Today are instrumental in establishing and acting on future dynamic global co-operation in order to pave the way for a sustainable world, the 2004 Youth & Globalisation Project seeks to pro-actively work against on a backdrop of civil society co-operation, global thinking and the common security and environmental threats.

The 2004 Youth & Globalisation Project consists of three subsequent activities, each having a distinct unique role and function within the general framework of the Project, thus creating a precise interlocking design which does not only resemble the structure of todays globalizing world, but it is also especially advantageous for accomplishing the set out objective.
The mission is to gather dynamic youths from all over the world to come together to actively contribute to the debate on globalisation and to actually devise ways and strategies to use globalisation in their own communities to pave the way for a sustainable future. This will be achieved through an especially pro-active initiative taken by youth as a fundamental component within todays civil society encouraged with regards to its function in future global society.

In concrete terms, the working methodology of the Project is primarily though three main genres of activities, a training seminar, a conference and a congress. The Training Seminar will focus primarily on having Workshops, Creative Thinking activities and Communication Sessions in order to share experiences and empower their usage in the future. The Conference will invite international speakers to enrich group discussion and forum debates about relevant security and globalisation issues of the contemporary world. The Congress as final event will aim at obtaining concrete sustainable results through thematic workshops and open dialogue based on focus on the secure future and active youth cooperation.
