On the globalisation trail across Europe and beyond…

September 2004: Think Europe Planning Meeting, Aachen , Germany

A Passion for the Possible - Trailing on the Global Front Workshop

The Trailing on the Global Front Workshop organized by the Youth & Globalisation Project Team of AEGEE-Europe sought to go beyond face-value evaluations and truly get into the core of matters. Starting off with what we mean by the term 'globalisation' and the raison d'etre behind the new concept of the Project, the Workshop explored the key issues which ought to be discussed and analysed throughout the three scheduled activities within the framework of the Project. Primarily, the Project will be devolving upon the concepts of youth empowerment in the Training Course to be held this December in Ukraine, international terrorism coupled with peace and stability to be discussed in the Madrid Conference next March and finally at Maastricht for the Congress where making globalisation work at the local level will be projected along the lines of intercultural dialogue, social cohesion and sustainable economic development.

The Youth & Globalisation Project Team was represented by Alexianne, Ayan, Egita and Tomas.

Upon the invitation of our partners the National Polish Youth Council, Alexianne and Tomas represented the entire YG team at the International Conference ‘Civil Society and International Youth Work Today, towards a Global Understanding' in Krakow, Poland. This excellent conference served us to make a presentation of the concepts and methodology to be used within the framework of our Project. Naturally, it also helped in contact-building and indeed we acquired a new partner organisation in Portugal!

At the Fall General Meeting of AEGEE-Europe, the YG Team could take this opportunity to discuss with our internal partners on the practical issues concerning the three activities. In fact, meetings were held with the Odessa Team, the Madrid Team and the Maastricht Team. Besides these external meetings, the YG Team represented by Alexianne, Egita, Tomas and Peter could actually get together to discuss in detail about the whole organisation of the Project, besides exchanging our brand new business cards :)

Local Risks, Global Threats: Youth on the Move: let's go Secure - W orkshop on world's security, globalised future and roles of youth

This workshop, led entirely by Tomáš Bouška, the Thematic co-ordinator of YG dealt with the different notions of security and future threats across Europe. The topic of international terrorism could not be skipped obviously and using creative exercises and brainstorming we were discussing effectiveness, legitimacy and legality of the fight against terrorism. Apart from that, other risks such as environmental changes were mentioned with the aim to be prepared for future development and hopefully actively contribute from the position of European youth to positive changes in our local communities.
