The Youth For Peace and Stability is an International Conference organized by the Youth & Globalisation 2004 Project Team of AEGEE-Europe in collaboration with AEGEE-Madrid, having the financial support of the European Commission.
This international Conference seeks to gather 50-75 active youths from all over Europe in order to explore and discuss the contemporary security issues and find efficiently working tools and strategies for promoting a bolder active young citizenship in local communities in the time of one year anniversary of the terrorist attacks in Madrid . Indeed, major focus throughout the Conference will be made on youth contribution towards secure and sustainable future, peace and stability, and intercultural dialogue.
All the participants will have the opportunity to attend also the INTERNATIONAL SUMMIT ON DEMOCRACY, TERRORISM and SECURITY ‘Democracy for a Safer World' which is being organized by Club de Madrid at the Palacio Municipal de Congresos Convention Centre. Furthermore, the participants will also be attending the Official Town Hall Remembrance Forum held on March 11, 2005 which will have the presence of illustrious personalities of the international arena.
Essentially, the Conference will chiefly be based on a multitude of diverse activities, largely concentrating on having workshop sessions, plenary debates and open forum discussions coupled with a series of lectures with Academics and Experts in the field. Indeed, the Conference is based on a philosophy of democratic participation and intercultural exchange in order to promote the building and strengthening of youth participation and democratic citizenship in an open global society. Last but nor least, a Conflict Simulation Game will make all the participants to deal with a possibility of a terrorist attack and make them solve such a situation by deceision making and responsible counteraction
The ultimate aim of this Conference is to question experts, decision makers and professionals on the roles of youth in regards to stability and sustainable future and tools to be implemented by the participants in their own communities, which they can change; compromise and consensus will be the basic working instrument. The discussed topics and gained information will act as a basis for further global thinking and civil society co-operation initiatives for the future, as well as an input to the following event of Youth on the Move: Let´s go global! International Conference in Maastricht [April 2005].
Please note that the conference is open for European youths and no application will be considered if it is WITHOUT motivation letter and questions. The questions to be answered are the following –
1. Why do you want to participate to this conference?
2. How should the youths today react to the threats of terrorism?
3. What are the local risks and global threats of today?
