What is AEGEE?
| AEGEE (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l΄Europe) is one of Europe's largest interdisciplinary student associations, which promotes a unified Europe, cross-border co-operation, communication, integration among students and strives to create an open and tolerant society of tomorrow. Founded in Paris in 1985, it takes its name from one of the birthplaces of democracy, the Aegean Sea, and the first parliament at the dawn of the French Revolution, Les Etats Généraux. |

AEGEE is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation that operates without being linked to any political party. A widely spread student network of 15.000 members in more than 241 local branches, so-called Antennae, provides the ideal platform where young people from over 41 European countries can work together, free from any national way of thinking. |

| The structure of AEGEE hasn’t changed much since its inception, it has worked perfectly for 20 years now. In order to really promote international co-operation and avoid creating any physical or mental borders AEGEE does not recognize any national level or national administration in its unique organizational structure, which is based on local and European level, with European dimension in the spirit of a borderless Europe, where national identities are shared rather than preserved, creating a space where we all can live our dreams |

The focus of the association lies within four main Fields of Action: Active Citizenship, Cultural Exchange, Higher Education and Peace and Stability. So, AEGEE enables every year more than 2500 students to take part in the Summer University project, a platform for cultural exchange. By encouraging travel and mobility, stimulating thematic discussions in various Working Groups and organising common projects AEGEE attempts to overcome national, cultural and ethnic divisions and to create a vision of young people’s Europe. |

| AEGEE is made up of incredibly motivated young people, who work for what they believe in. In return they draw personal satisfaction from exerting influence on the world around them, and gather experience, which enriches their whole life. The dream of Europe without borders has inspired and continues to inspire generations of students from the Caucasus to the Atlantic shores, and makes AEGEE a permanently developing association. In short, the European minded person finds in AEGEE a perfect environment to learn about and act for Europe. |

All in all, we are active in actions fostering the learning of other languages, understanding and living democracy, opening neighbours cultures and getting to know minorities. Finally, AEGEE is a cool and easy way to get to know yourself and the area around you. |
