MEPs call for investment measures to tap the potential for jobs and growth in the
green economy, health and social services and the new technologies, in a resolution
passed on Thursday, They welcome the Commission’s recent policy paper on a job-
rich recovery, which advocates setting minimum wages to help the working poor.

ILO: Global Employment Trends for Youth 2012‏

The ILO study examines the continuing job crisis affecting young people in many parts of the world. It provides updated statistics on global and regional youth unemployment rates and presents ILO policy recommendations to curb the current trends. Nearly 75 million youth are unemployed around the world, an increase of more than 4 million since 2007. Medium-term projections (2012–16) suggest little improvement in youth labour markets. By 2016, the youth unemployment rate is projected to remain at the same high level.

European Parliament backs Youth Guarantee and Quality Internships

The European Parliament today reaffirmed their call for a European Youth Guarantee and regulation for Quality Internships in the EU.

During the discussions MEPs affirmed that they didn’t feel there was enough sense of urgency behind the EU’s actions and that the Member States should adopt a youth guarantee as soon as possible. View the Press Release.

Latest Employment Figures

Dear all,

I thought I would let you know that the latest employment stats came out from Eurostat today, and unemployment (including youth unemployment) is marginally up in the EU.

In both Spain and Greece the youth unemployment rates have gone over 50% (50.5% and 50.4%) respectively.
