Sustainable SCANdinavia

From 30th March to 5th of April 2009, after a long break AEGEE-Copenhagen together with "Sustaining our Future" team organised the 1st Sustainable SCANdinavia event, that hopefully will be followed by events in neighbouring countries in the future.

During this one week, around 30 young people from all over Europe got the chance to discover sustainability Danish way and also enjoy lovely Copenhagen.

From Green Campus presentation at Copenhagen University to tour in Christiania, from visit to waste management centre to workshops on organic food and fair trade, participants could see the different sides and aspects of sustainability and also express their own opinion about it. In European Environmental Agency we got to know what has been done in European level, especially in the topic of sustainable consumption.

The event ended with full day case work, where participants were divided into regional groups, where they developed different sustainability events for their regions. The created events were: Greener Balkan (sustainable lifestyles in Slovenia), Rhine Energy (boat trip through Germany and the Netherlands, dealing with energy issues), I kare for Ikaria (ecotourism event in a Greek island) and Sustainable SCANdinavia 2 (tackling sustainable consumption in Sweden). We hope that some of these ideas also become real!

This one week event contributed also to achieving long term objectives of SuFu - informing European youth about the cultural, social and natural aspects influencing their living environment; acquiring and promoting information, guidelines and best practices aiming to more sustainable resources' management and lifestyle; and reaching for a higher availability, visibility and attractiveness of sustainable ways of travelling for European youth.
