Isa Blumi studied at Sana's University (Yemen), University of Ankara, New School of Social Research in New York, Sorbonne in Paris, and at Universitaire de Nancy II.

Currently he is in the ABD joint program of the departments of history and middle eastern studies at New York University.

His various publications dealt with different aspects of identity. He has worked in particular on Yemen, the Ottoman Empire, and Albania.
